2013 Regular Season Year in Review

Here is my year in review. I will hand out a bunch of real NFL awards based off my opinions and then give some of my own awards as well. Lets get started.

MVP: Peyton Manning, Denver Broncos. Duh... well obviously he is my pick. Not only is Peyton my favorite athlete of all time and one of my roll models, he is one of the best NFL QB's ever and put some more icing on the cake with this season. 55 TD's, 5477 yards(both new records) is just insane. No way he isn't the MVP.
Runner Up: Cam Newton.
Honorable Mentions: Russel Wilson, Lesean McCoy, Jamaal Charles.

Offensive Player of the Year: Jamaal Charles, Kansas City Chiefs: Peyton should also win this award, but I'll give it to someone else just be be nice. I almost went with McCoy for this one but I thought about it and McCoy has a lot more talent around him than Charles. Jamaal accounted for 70% of his teams plays this year, thats crazy. Their offense wouldn't be going too many places without him.
Runner Up: Lesean McCoy.
Honorable Mentions: Josh Gordon, Calvin Johnson, Drew Brees.

Defensive Player of the Year: Luke Kuechly, Carolina Panthers. Luke won this award for me during that game a couple of weeks ago against the Saints. He went for 24 tackles, the most in a game since 1996, and also capped it off with an interception, his 4th on the year. The Panthers have one of the NFL's most stout defenses so it makes since to give it to Luke.
Runner Up: Robert Mathis.
Honorable Mentions: Richard Sherman, Robert Quinn, JJ Watt.

Offensive Rookie of the Year: Keenan Allen, San Diego Chargers. I got a real good look at this kid in prime Thursday night a couple weeks ago in Denver. He leaped over the Broncos defenders and once I saw that I knew he is the real deal.
Runner Up: Eddy Lacey.

Defensive Rookie of the Year: Kiki Olonso, Buffalo Bills. This guy has already become a legend in his city and was a bright stop in a pretty bad Bills team. He had his 4 interceptions earlier in the season, but no one else is more deserving.
Runner Up: Star Lotulelei.

Coach of the Year: Ron Rivera, Carolina Panthers. "Riverboat Ron" changed the league completely. The Panthers went from 1-3 to 12-4. It was a crazy turn around and Ron went from being on the hot-seat to coach of the year.
Runner Up: Andy Reid.
Honorable Mentions: Bruce Arians, Pete Caroll, Chip Kelly.

Comeback Player of the Year: Terrel Suggs, Baltimore Ravens. This award isn't as competitive as it was last year(Manning and Peterson) but Suggs makes the best case. It seems pretty apparent that he was pretty banged up last season and really returned to form this year.
Runner Up: Knowshon Moreno
Honorable Mentions: Philip Rivers, Riley Cooper.

Okay now on to my own awards.

Best Game: Broncos 51 vs. Cowboys 48
Seriously, 99 combined points, 11 total touchdowns. It is hard to get better and more entertaining than that(besides for the defensive coordinators).
Runner Up: Panthers 24 vs. Patriots 20

Worst Game: Eagles 54 vs. Bears 11
This was flexed into Sunday Night Football and I stopped watching it after about 1 quarter. Such a bad game for non Eagles fans.
Runner Up: Seahawks 34 vs. Saints 7.

Most Surprising Team: Kansas City Chiefs. Like the Colts of last year, the Chiefs went from 2-14 to 11-5. Big turnaround wins them this award.
Runner Up: Carolina Panthers.

Most Disappointing: Houston Texans. After an 11-1 start to last season, the Texans have gone 4-18. What the heck happened?
Runner Up: Washington Redskins

The "You really blew" award: Detroit Lions. The NFC North was yours to win, and you finished in third place. Wow.
Runner Up: Miami Dolphins

The "I wish I was in another division" award: Arizona Cardinals. 10-6 would've won the NFC north or east, but since they are in the competitive west, they couldn't even make the playoffs.

Best Division(heck, lets just rank all of them!)
1. NFC West/AFC West this two had a combined total of 5 playoff teams and 6 winning teams. Wow.
3. NFC South: Panthers 12-4, Saints 11-5 Wildcard.
4. AFC North: 11-5 and two 8-8 teams.
5. AFC East: 12-4 and two 8-8 teams.
6. NFC East: 10-6 winner along with 8-8 runner up. Not as bad as we thought.
7. NFC North: Wow, 8-7-1 winner. Not good.
8. AFC South: Colts are good at 11-5. No over .500 teams.

My Preseason Predictions Compared to Teams Actual Records

Last Weeks Picks Record: 13-3
This Seasons Record: 178-78

That is a nice record to end the season on. EXACTLY 100 more games that I called correctly than incorrectly! Before the start of the season I made some predictions about every teams final record, and here are how those predictions compare to what actually happened. I will list how many games I was off. For example, if I predicted a team to go 0-16, but they went 8-8, I was +8 games off on my prediction. If I called them going 16-0 but they went 8-8, I was -8 off on my prediction. That is how this will work. Lets see how I did!

I'd say I did pretty well! I predicted a total of 9 teams records exactly and was off by only +/-1 on only 6 teams! Not a bad year for my predictions!

NFL Week 8 Predictions

Last Weeks Record: 11-4
This Season's Record: 74-33

Last week went pretty well for me. I even called that huge Jets-Patriots upset! I am going to stop with the bold predictions due to time for the current moment, but it could return in the near future.

Panthers 27 @ Buccaneers 14: Cam Newton does A LOT better on his second TNF outing with a win over the winless Bucs in Tampa.

Giants 24 @ Eagles 13: Big upset here. Yes, the Giants have been awful this year, but the Eagles have been equally as awful at home(0-3).

Cowboys 23 @ Lions 28: This one could be a shootout, like Detroit's meeting against Cincinnati last week. Something tells me the Lions won't lose 2 in a row....

Browns 16 @ Chiefs 20: This will be another close call, but Kansas City will move to 8-0.

Dolphins 31 @ Patriots 17: WHAT? Yeah, I know what you're thinking. I am crazy. But I have a really weird gut feeling that the Dolphins will win. I did about the Jets last week, and it worked out then.

Bills 14 @ Saints 34: This is a lock for me. The Saints are angry about a loss and coming off a bye. I would not want to be Buffalo.

49er's 28 "@" Jaguars 6: The Jaguars are playing a "home" game in London where they are likely to be playing full time in a few years....

Jets 17 @ Bengals 28: The Jets seem to astound then lay a goose-egg. I think there might be some scrambling this weekend.

Steelers 19 @ Raiders 16: This one isn't pretty, but the Steelers when their third straight after starting 0-4.

Falcons 20 @ Cardinals 24: Atlanta just has no offensive weapons to win this one of the road.

Redskins 23 @ Broncos 47: The Broncos bounce-back with a big offense day over their former coach.

Vikings 10 @ Packers 30: Who scheduled the night games this week?

Seahawks 20 @ Rams 7: I mean really?

Sunday, October 20, 2013

Week 7 NFL Picks

Last Weeks Record: 8-7
This Seasons Record: 63-29
I had my worst week of predicting last week, but still managed to pull it out over .500! I predicted that Danny Amendola would get hurt, and he did. Crazy bold prediction that came true! I am a little bit short on time here, so I am just going to give you my pick without any write-ups or bold predictions.

Seahawks 31 @ Cardinals  21

Rams 17 @ Panthers 23

Buccaneers 23 @ Falcons 34

Bengals 27 @ Lions 23

Bills 16 @ Dolphins 20

Patriots 24 @ Jets 28

Cowboys 23 @ Eagles 14

Bears 31 @ Redskins 20

Chargers 30 @ Jaguars 12

49er's 27 @ Titans 17

Texans 16 @ Chiefs 24

NFL Score Predictions Week 6

Last Weeks Record: 9-5
This Seasons Record: 55-22

I did call a few of the upsets last week! Yeah! I also missed a few games, my worst win % of the year so far. I mean seriously, who saw the Jets doing that?
Bold Predictions: I predicted correctly that Tom Brady would have more INT's than TD's! I think that one was pretty impressive.

Giants 21 @ Bears 28: I think this game could be closer than we think, but the Giants fall to 0-6.
BOLD PREDICTION: Eli Manning throws 2 or more INT's for the 4th time this year.

Panthers 20 @ Vikings 24: The Panthers, despite their 1-3 record, have scored 16 more point than their opponents. I think they lose yet ANOTHER narrow game this week.
BOLD PREDICTION: Adrian Peterson scores all of the Vikings Touchdowns after his sons tragedy.

Bengals 27 @ Bills 17: Thad Lewis! Yes! I live in Durham, NC and saw Thad Lewis play many games at Duke University. Ill be cheering for him in this game, but I don't expect a win.
BOLD PREDICTION: Thad Lewis: 2 TD's, 0 INT's.

Lions 31 @ Browns 23: The Browns win streak finally catches up with them, as the Lions move to 4-2 and atop the NFC north.
BOLD PREDICTION: Brandon Weeden 3 TD's, 3 INT's.

Raiders 17 @ Chiefs 34: Oakland has been really inconsistent this year, and they will be on the backend of another blowout in Kansas City.
BOLD PREDICTION: Alex Smith 4 TD passes.

Steelers 20 @ Jets 21: The Jets could improve to 4-2 with a win. How crazy would that be? And the Steelers would be 0-5? I thought the world was supposed to end last year....
BOLD PREDICTION: Big Ben, 3 INT's.

Eagles 13 @ Bucs 28: This is an upset I am calling here. The only game where I have a winless team winning for the first time.
BOLD PREDICTION: Mike Glennon out-duels Nick Folk.

Packers 27 @ Ravens 32: Battle of the recent Superbowl champs. I think Flacco wins this one, mainly because it is in Baltimore.
BOLD PREDICTION: Aaron Rodgers and Joe Flacco combine for 7 TD's.

Rams 10 @ Texans 20: This should be an easy bounce-back win for Houston, considering the level St. Louis is playing at currently.
BOLD PREDICTION: Matt Schaub DOESN'T throw another Pick-6.

Titans 13 @ Seahawks 35: With QB Jake Locker out, the Titans don't appear to have much of a chance.
BOLD PREDICTION: Seahawks score 2 defensive TD's.

Jaguars 12 @ Broncos 55: Yeah, not much to say about this game.
BOLD PREDICTION: Peyton Manning has 5 more TD's, and Brock has 1 too....

Saints 30 @ Patriots 20: My 2 LEAST FAVORITE teams in the NFL. I think the Saints win on the road. Why can't they both lose?
BOLD PREDICTION: Danny Amendola leaves game win an injury.

Cardinals 21 @ 49er's 31: This game will be close, until a late second-half pick 6.
BOLD PREDICTION: Larry Fitz goes off with 2 TD's, 100 yards.

Redskins 24 @ Cowboys 28: This is another shootout in Arlington.
BOLD PREDICTION: RG3 finally gets a running game going.

Colts 24 @ Chargers 17: Luck wins his first ever MNF game.
BOLD PREDICTION: Reggie Wayne, 2 TD's.

NFL Week 5 Predictions

Last Weeks Record: 11-4
This Seasons Record 46-17

This is my first time posting my predictions, but I have been keeping track of them and I must say I am off to a pretty good start! The most interesting thing about this week is that EVERY 4-0 team has a road game. Who will make it to 5-0 and who falls short? My predictions might surprise you.

Bills 21 @ Browns 23: One of these teams is going to be a surprise 3-2. I think Cleveland barely pulls this one out at home.
Bold Prediction: EJ Manuel and Brian Hoyer combine for 5 INT's.

Saints 20 @ Bears 27: A battle between a great offense and a great defense. In Chicago I cant see the Bears letting their 3-0 start slip to 3-2. I'm picking the windy city in a close one.
Bold Prediction: Jay Culter has more yard and TD's than Drew Brees.

Patriots 27 @ Bengals 31: My big upset pick of the week, I think the Bengals are out to prove something after an embarrassing loss to Cleveland.
Bold Prediction: Tom Brady has more INT's than TD's.

Lions 17 @ Packers 37: After a bye-week I think Aaron Rodger and CO. are not going to blow another close game. They win this one big.
Bold Prediction: Packers RB's outrush Lions.

Seahawks 13 @ Colts 19: Another upset of a 4-0 team. Russel Wilson and the Hawks have gotten better on the road, but can't finish a nail bitter in Indy.
Bold Prediction: Colts defense forces more takeaways than Seahawks.

Ravens 20 @ Dolphins 17: The defending champs bounce back. Joe Flacco will have his best game of the year.
Bold Prediction: Flacco 2 TD's, 0 INT's, 324 Yards.

Eagles 14 @ Giants 24: The G-men finally get an offensive spark and win their first of the year.
Bold Prediction: Michael Vick goes 2nd straight game without a TD.

Jaguars 6 @ Rams 17: On of the weeks worst games. Both these teams don't seem to know where they are at currently.
Bold Prediction: Sam Bradford completes 60% of passes.

Chiefs 21 @ Titans 20: If QB Jake Locker for the Titans had not gotten hurt, I would've picked Tennessee in this game, but I don't think Ryan Fitzpatrick can lead them to a win. This is one close, though.
Bold Prediction: Chiefs only rush for TD's. Charles with 2 and Smith with 1.

Panthers 26 @ Cardinals 21: Cam Newton returns to the place where he had his historic NFL debut. I think Cam does it again and the Panthers pull this one out.
Bold Prediction: Cam Newton has over 400 total yards, again.

Broncos 40 @ Cowboys 27: A little bit of a closer game for Peyton Manning's Broncos, but they still jack up the points and get to 40 for the 4th time.
Bold Prediction: Peyton will throw another 4 TD's, and no INT's.

Texans 13 @ 49er's 20: Two of last years best teams that are currently struggling. I can see this being a defense battle.
Bold Prediction: Both teams score TD's on defense.

Jets 10 @ Falcons 32: The Falcons cannot drop to 1-4. Matt Ryan will not let it happen.
Bold Prediction: Geno Smith doesn't throw an INT, but only leads 2 scoring drives.

Denver Broncos vs. Philadelphia Eagles: Predictions.

The Eagles travel to the mile high city after back-to-back home losses to take on the undefeated Broncos. Here are my predictions for the game:
BRONCOS
1. Peyton Manning will light it up, again. Yes, Manning will be on fire in this game. The Eagles have one of the worst passing defenses in the league and they made Chargers QB Philip Rivers look like Manning. Who knows what the actual Peyton Manning can do.
My Prediction: 4 TD's, 352 Passing Yards.
2. Montee Ball finally has a breakout game. Ball has really been struggling. Some thought he would be the surefire starter but after a couple fumbles in the past two games it appears he, Moreno, and Hillman will all be sharing the workload. I think Ball will finally have a good game this time around, and rush for his first TD as a pro.
My Prediction: 1 Rushing TD, 87 Rushing Yards.
3. Demaryius Thomas has a HUGE game. He has gotten the yards, but not the endzone in the past couple of weeks. I think it is time he breaks out again.
My Prediction: 2 Receiving TD's, 122 Receiving Yards.
4. Wes Welker and Julius Thomas continue their streaks. Both of these guys have caught at least one touchdown pass in each game this season. They will do that again.
My Prediction: Welker 1 TD, 56 Yards. Thomas 1 TD, 48 Yards.
5. Broncos Defensive gets their first touchdown. The Broncos will intercept Michael Vick and return it for a touchdown late in the game.
Final Point Total: 42
EAGLES
1. Michael Vick has another BAD game. Vick struggled greatly against Kansas City, and will Struggle again.
My Prediction: 1 TD, 211 Passing Yards, 2 INT's. 34 rushing yards.
2. Leasean Mccoy gets SHUT DOWN. The Broncos have the best rushing defense in the league. They held Darren Mcfadden to 9 yards!
My Prediction: 1 TD, 62 Yards, Fumble.
3. Eagles Receivers all struggle. None of them get over 50 yards.
4. Eagles defense implodes. They wont get a single turnover.
FINAL SCORE: Broncos 42, Eagles 17
